Maintain Your Registration:

All physicians who practise medicine in Prince Edward Island must be registered as members of the College.

Ensure you are aware of your registration end date and that all renewal requirements are received in the College office no later than 30 days prior to the expiry date.

If you choose not to renew your registration, or if you plan to close your medical practice, you are required to notify us.

Maintain Your Medical Corporation Permit:

If you intend to practise or are practising medicine under a corporation, your Medical Corporation must be registered with the College.

Medical Corporation registrations are valid from April through March, must be renewed every year, and are only valid as long as you are holding active CPSPEI registration to practise medicine.

We recommend that you get legal and tax advice before you set up your corporation. Lawyers and accountants can explain the conditions and requirements that will be placed on your corporation.

Atlantic Registry

The Registry was created to enable physicians to easily move and practise across all four Atlantic provinces. It is built upon substantial agreement by the four Atlantic Colleges (College of Physicians & Surgeons of New Brunswick, College of Physicians 7 Surgeons of Newfoundland & Labrador, College of Physicians & Surgeons of Nova Scotia, and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island) on the criteria for licensing physicians and advances the spirit and intent of the Canadian Free Trade Agreement.

Physicians who hold General Registration with CPSPEI or the equivalent with CPSNB, CPSNL, CPSNS and whose primary practice is in one of the Atlantic provinces, may be eligible to obtain a Full, General or Regular licence in all four provinces via the Atlantic Registry. To be considered for eligibility, there must not be any conditions, restrictions, undertakings, supervision, etc., attached to your registration.

If you wish to opt-in to the Atlantic Registry, you must submit an opt-in request form, be deemed eligible, and pay the initial registration fee of $500 to the College in your home province (defined as the Atlantic province where you practise the majority of your time). The cost of $500.00 replaces all fees associated with the individual application/licensure processes for the other Atlantic Colleges.
