Canadian Graduates

All persons who intend to practise medicine in Prince Edward Island must be registered and licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Prince Edward Island

(Medical Act 1988).

For physicians who would like to practise medicine in PEI, It is strongly recommended that you first visit the Government of Prince Edward Island’s website to view current job opportunities for physicians: www.healthjobspei.ca under “Physicians.” If you require additional information about the current job opportunities, please contact the Recruitment and Retention Secretariat at healthrecruiter@gov.pe.ca

All physicians applying for a licence to practice in PEI must apply online through  physiciansapply.ca   An account will have to be created, if not already done, which will allow the physician to complete and submit the Application and pay the applicable fees (by credit card) online.

All fees associated with the application process are at the expense of the applicant and are Non-refundable.  Furthermore, successful completion of the licensure process does not guarantee a job on Prince Edward Island.

You may apply for licensure on PEI; however, if you have not held an independent license within Canada, you would likely require a supervised practise.  The determination of whether the health system can support the level of supervision you may require rests solely with Health PEI. Supervision agreements must be agreed upon and signed prior to the College issuing you a license.

Please refer to our licensure page for further requirements.
